Profile

Elisabeth Symons helps private and public sector organizations to understand the legal issues that they face relating to technology and address them in creative and practical ways that help them to meet their objectives.  In providing advice to clients, Elisabeth draws on her background in technology and law.

She has extensive experience with respect to:  (i) technology agreements including network services agreements, hosting agreements, development agreements, licensing agreements and software-as-a-service agreements (including agreements for cloud-based services); (ii) web-based agreements such as terms of use and privacy policies for web sites; (iii) procurement matters for both public and private sector organisations (especially in relation to purchases involving information or communications technologies and related services); (iv) the outsourcing of various technology-related services; (v) the law as it relates to social media; and (v) helping clients develop and implement strategies when they are faced with distressed IT projects.  She has acted as the lead lawyer on a number of significant IT transactions, especially for municipal clients and clients in the healthcare sector.

Elisabeth represents public and private sector clients on a wide variety of matters.  In doing so, she seeks to better understand the requirements of each, especially in relation to the complex environments in which they operate.  She uses this information to develop practical responses to legal issues that will work for her clients.

Prior to becoming a founding partner of Mann Symons Law Office, Elisabeth worked at other prominent law firms and in the legal departments of a leading developer of graphics software and an international Internet service provider.
